We have all been in the trade long enough to know that the fish supply around the festive period will get a little difficult.
Prices have started to rise, weather conditions worsen, and demand will certainly rise, therefore reducing product availability resulting in further price increases.
Furthermore, fishermen want to enjoy their Christmas too, and often the harsh weather conditions may offer them a chance to have longer holidays… This therefore means that there should be boats at sea until the 22nd December with most fishermen being back at sea around the 3rd – 4th January 2018, albeit weather permitting.
What does this mean for you?
This means that there will be landings of wild catch to us up until the 22nd – 23rd December, which includes:
Wild halibut; wild seabass; fresh crab – live and hand-picked crab meat; scallop meat and hand dived scallops; monkfish; cod and haddock; lobsters; wild turbot; brill, and hake. This will be alongside our usual selection of farmed fish (this is all subject to the weather).
Between Christmas and New Year, we will be receiving deliveries (27th – 30th December) of farmed fish that includes, farmed halibut, farmed turbot, salmon, seabass and seabream, cod, haddock, Canadian lobsters, mussels, seatrout, clams, oysters, and stonebass. We have also garnered a deal with two vessels in Norway and two vessels in Peterhead to give us a landing of fresh cod and haddock between the Christmas and New Year period, again this is dependent upon weather, but rest assured we and the skippers of the boats shall endeavor to do our best to ensure that this will happen.
Please remember to PLAN AHEAD. If you know that you will be needing a large amount of fish for your Christmas and or New Year’s Eve menus, please let us know in advance with pre orders before Friday 15th December. Or consider buying and freezing beforehand, this will guarantee your supply and price.
Please do not hesitate to contact the office, we will be more than happy to help.
We would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from all of us here at Hodgson Fish.
